Why the measles outbreak keeps me up at night
Why the measles outbreak keeps me up at night
Since the beginning of this year, measles cases have been reported in eleven states spanning both coasts and heartland. The situation warrants enough concern that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued a warning to doctors about renewed measles risk. 04/10/2024 00:00
Eclipse in our Rearview Mirror
Eclipse in our Rearview Mirror
Enough already. The eclipse of April 8 has been smothered with coverage by both mass and social media. Americans — some who flail at things that go “bump” in the night — yearned for even more darkness! They carved out time from busy schedules and squeezed funds from their budgets to make their way to a slice of the globe where the solar eclipse darkened the day for some four minutes — give or take a few seconds. 04/10/2024 00:00

Anyone who has been around Bandera for any length of time will certainly have stories and memories associated with the Medina River. For us oldtimers it was the ultimate entertainment available while we were going through our younger years. And it was free!!! 04/10/2024 00:00

You may think George Soros is really digging deep into his pockets to cause the former Trump officials who knew him best to seemingly press the panic button and speak out against their former “boss.” It is well known that if you cross “da’ boss” you will be subject to enough bad words, threats, scowls, and slurs to put the worst 6th grade school yard bully to shame. 04/03/2024 00:00

SERIOUS GUADALUPE RIVER DAMAGE BY DEVELOPER ALMOST UNNOTICED BY MEDIA
SERIOUS GUADALUPE RIVER DAMAGE BY DEVELOPER ALMOST UNNOTICED BY MEDIA
Apparently about several tracts totalling around 400 acres were purchased on Hwy. 1340 across the road from Camp Stewart, by an out of town developer and were being cleared, trees burned and roads built including down into the Guadalupe River. Ron Duke, of the Kerr County Water Alliance (KCWA-contact page on website), reported this major river and land violation to me and others on March 21st. This is a new citizen's group formed to observe and protect our county's water resources. As you know, groundwater (aquifers) and the river comprise the bulk of our Kerr County water supplies and they are connected - groundwater produces the springs, which in turn produce most area creek and river flows. 04/03/2024 00:00

Solar eclipse means big money to Texas
One economist is calling it “the most profitable 22 minutes in Texas history,” according to the Texas Standard. The total solar eclipse on Monday, April 8 is expected to draw up to a million visitors to the Lone Star State, especially in its narrow path of totality. 04/03/2024 00:00

The laundry can wait I think I need to give my wife a talkin’ to… The other day, I did some laundry. Mind you, it’s no secret around here that, by design, I suck at doing laundry. You see, I learned early on in life that exhibiting a lack of proficiency at a task in the presence of folks who fancy themselves proficient at whatever the task may be will invariably elicit enough sympathy, or frustration, to get them to do it for you. This has been my lifelong approach to the cleaning of my dirty clothes. 04/03/2024 00:00
