BMS wins in cross country, football

Bandera Middle School athletes competed this past weekend in cross country and football.

The cross country teams ran in Kerrville on a challenging course. Nine runners set personal record times, including Rudy Esparza (14th), Phoenix Alexander (18th), Iris Moore (3rd), Porter Smith (13th), Olivia Rynarzewski (8th), and Aspen Collazo (10th).

In football, the Bulldogs played their first game on turf at Bandera High School Stadium against Cole Middle School.

7th Grade B-Team

The B-Team defeated Cole 22-0. Wyitt King scored two touchdowns and a two-point conversion, Blaise Quintero added a touchdown on a pass from William Volkmer, and Owen Cordell contributed a two-point conversion. Defenders King, David Hudson, Hunter Cale, Gaitlin Reaves, and Noah Barton held Cole scoreless.

7th Grade A-Team

The A-Team won 12-0. Branden Delaney scored two rushing touchdowns. The defense included contributions from Jett Lagedrost, Ty Heiner, and Phoenix Alexander.

8th Grade A-Team

The 8th Grade A-Team won 28-6. Cody McCarthy scored three touchdowns and threw a touchdown pass to Jacob Tetlaff. Connor Popham added two two-point conversions. Defenders David Guerra, Daniel Cale, Cody McCarthy, Jace McCarthy, Aaron Esquivel, Torque Hamilton, and David Giant made key plays, including a fumble recovery.

The Bulldogs will play their next game against the Hondo Owls on Sept. 25.
