DPS investigating reported school shooting threat

DPS investigating reported school shooting threat

The Texas Department of Public Safety and Bandera Independent School District are investigating a reported school shooting threat involving a student, officials confirmed Wednesday.

According to DPS, the threat was reported through the Texas Fusion Center on Sept. 17 and remains under investigation by the agency’s Criminal Investigation Division.

While DPS noted no arrests have been made, Bandera ISD noted in their letter that the student was "detained by DPS."

“Texas Department of Public Safety is working closely with Bandera ISD officials and partner law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety of students, staff, and the community,” Trooper Dila Hidalgo said in a statement. “To protect the integrity of this investigation, there are no more details available at this time.”

In a letter sent to parents, Bandera High School Principal Patrick Sizemore said the student involved had been detained by DPS following coordination with school officials and local law enforcement.

Sizemore emphasized that “at no point Bandera ISD students and faculty were in danger.”

“We want to reassure you that we take all reports of threats seriously, no matter the intent,” Sizemore wrote. “Every measure will be taken to ensure the safety of everyone on campus.”

He encouraged students, staff and the community to speak up if something seems wrong, citing the district’s “See Something, Say Something” safety initiative.

The BISD Campus/Student Safety Report is available on the district’s website under the “Say Something!” tab.
