The Bobcat boys basketball team lassoed a strong win against the D’Hanis Cowboys in the first district game of the 2020-21 season and the start of the race for a place in the playoffs.
Medina overpowered D’Hanis on the road by building a 16-point lead in the first half.
The Cowboys’ comeback effort was blunted in the second half, allowing the Bobcats to capture their first district game of the year on Tuesday, Dec. 29.
Medina’s 46-39 win makes the team 4-5 for the year and 1-0 in the district.
Zach Bryant hit some big three-point shots down the stretch to secure the victory. Bryant scored 18 points, grabbed six rebounds, four assists and four steals.
TJ DeLeon contributed 12 points and five rebounds.
Carter Lichtenberg scored 10 points and pulled in seven rebounds
The Bobcats traveled to Knippa Monday and hosted Nueces Canyon Monday. The results of those games were not available by the time the Bulletin went to press.
On Friday, they travel to Utopia.
“D’Hanis is a tough place to play and win. I am really proud of our kids who held on to win. This week will be a big one in district play,” Coach Bill Carter said.
