Bandera’s Boys’ Basketball Team has had quite a turnaround since winning its first district game in almost two seasons at the end of January with a 40-29 win against Llano.
The Bulldogs defeated Llano again on Feb. 18 in their last regular season game by 65-55, which allowed them to move on to a one-game tie-breaker against Canyon Lake on Friday, Feb. 21, to see which team would move on to the playoffs.
The Bulldogs had a good night shooting 3-point shots in the play-in game in Boerne and capitalized on their free-throw opportunities to take down Canyon Lake 56-53.
The game had been close all night, and Bandera trailed going into the final quarter 45-43. The Bulldogs held the Hawks score less the last minute-and-fifty-seconds of play while scoring three on its own to secure the win.
Bandera Independent School District Athletic Director Joel Fontenot-Amedee earlier this week said he was very proud of the basketball team.
“They have overcome a lot of adversity this season and have secured a playoff spot versus Liberty Hill, which will be played Tuesday night (Feb. 25) at Johnson City,” said Fontenot-Amedee. “This accomplishment speaks volumes about the character of not only Coach (Carl) Lee, his staff and our team but also of the community who supports and raises these young men.
“I can honestly say I’m proud of these young men, this community, and I’m proud to be a bulldog… I can’t wait to see our boys compete in the playoffs!” The results of the game
The results of the game against Liberty Hill were not available by the time the Bulletin went to press this week.
