The Bandera Bulldogs Boys Powerlifting team traveled to San Antonio on Feb. 28 to compete in the Texas Strength Systems Invitational and qualified four lifters to the regional championships.
Bandera’s Colton Perkins had personal best in all three categories he was part of. He squatted 550 pounds, benched 335 pounds and dead lifted 500 pounds, his coach said.
Brian Burns went from No. 12 to No. 7 in the regional rankings with personal bests in the squat with 420 pounds, bench press with 230 pounds and dead lift with 430 pounds.
Zakary Widenor also had season bests with a squat of 500, bench press of 230 and a dead lift of 510.
In addition, officials said Ethan Brown came back strong from injury to continue being ranked No. 1 in the 123-pound class. He squatted 380, benched 210 and dead lifted 380.
Matthew Stanton had a great day as well, with a squat of 380, a bench press of 270 and a dead lift of 395.
Brown, Burns, Perkins and Widenor will compete at the Region 5 Championships that will take place at Bishop High School on Friday, March 13, at 8:30 a.m.
The entire squad has worked hard all season and has made tremendous gains, the coach said.
