The Bandera Lady Bulldog Cross Country teams competed at the Llano Cross Country Invitational over the past weekend. It is a course the girls will see again later in the season at the district meet.
All 129 Junior Varsity and Varsity girls participated in the meet. Having the team members run together was an advantage for us as the girls pushed each other and worked to compete for spots on Varsity.
Sophomores Raelynn Butler and Morgan Cole led the race, along with runners from St. Michaels and Llano. The four runners separated in a hurry from the rest of the pack.
Cole made a surge at the end to try and catch the first-place girl, but barely came up short.
Many of the girls saw personal bests, an all-time best or a season best score.
The Varsity girls placed a close second with 50 points, just behind the winner, St. Michaels, which had 47 points.
The Junior Varsity team won first place with a near perfect score of 18 points.
Results for the Varsity girls were: Cole, 2nd; Butler, 3rd; Hannah Edwards, 9th; Jordan Edwards, 16th; Elexis Pearson, 20th; Kaitlin Doebbler, 21st; and Corrine McMullan, 22nd.
Finishes for the Junior Varsity girls were Mallorie Powell, 1st; Ofelia Macias, 2nd; Caitlin Watson, 4th; Bietzel Gonzalez, 5th; Madison Gillapsie, 6th; Mia Ramirez, 9th; and Noellia Guevarra, 10th.
The Bandera Bulldogs Boys Cross Country teams competed in the Llano Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 7, as well.
All the runners on the boys’ Varsity team finished in the top 20 as the team finished second overall.
The boys’ JV team won its division with all runners finishing in the top 18 at the meet.
