Bandera crushed Canyon Lake 73-53 on Tuesday, Feb. 2, and lost a game to Fredericksburg 60-46 on Friday, Feb. 5.
In the Canyon Lake game, the Bulldogs jumped out to a big early lead thanks to a strong start from junior forward Liam DeMarchi.
DeMarchi had 10 points in the first quarter as the Bulldogs built a nine-point lead in the first before extending it to 18 at the halftime break.
Canyon Lake showed some steam early in the second half, but Bandera maintained its lead and never led by less than 15 points after the halftime break.
In the Friday game, Bandera hit the road to take on Fredericksburg, and the Billies hung on for a 60-46 victory in a competitive back-and-forth game.
After a tightly contested first quarter, the Bulldogs gave up an 8-0 run late in the second that shifted the momentum to Fredericksburg heading into the halftime break.
The Bulldogs responded well and matched the Billies shot-for-shot in the second half, cuffing the deficit to single digits with less than five minutes left to play.
Fredericksburg pulled away for its 17th win of the season.
“I was really proud of the intensity we played with from start to finish,” said Coach Brady Keane.
“We didn’t get off to a slow start and we were able to weather the storm through several of the runs Fredericksburg threw at us,” Keane said. ‘We cut into the deficit in the fourth quarter and gave ourselves a chance; we just needed a few more shots to fall.”
Bandera dropped to 10-13 overall and 2-6 in District 28-4A play with the loss.
The Bulldogs faced Boerne at home on Tuesday. Results of that game were not available by the Bulletin’s press deadline.
‘We’re excited about the opportunity to get back to work and compete against another ranked team on Tuesday,” said Keane.
The team will close out their season on Feb. 12 with an away game against Wimberley.
