Bandera cross country teams stay competitive

The Bandera Lady Bulldog Cross Country teams competed either at the Fredericksburg Invitational last Wednesday, Sept. 18, or on Saturday, Sept. 21, in Corpus Christi.

The Lady Bulldogs who ran in Fredericks-burg faced a tough course in hot, humid conditions. Coaches said they stayed hydrated and avoided any heat-related issues.

The girls at that meet placed 5th overall.

Ashley Grodman led the Lady Bulldogs placing 22nd. Mia Ramirez placed 26th, Emily Garcia 28th, Anna Guajardo 30th, Noellia Guevarra 39th, Tanna Flewellen 45th, and Courtney Dowda 57th.

Lady Bulldogs who competed in Corpus Christi at the Islander Splash also had stiff competition. For a third of the team, it was their first really big meet.

As a team, the Lady Bulldogs placed second with 119 points, only five points behind first-place Yoakum.

There were a total of 58 teams in the competition and 345 runners.

Morgan Cole led the Lady Bulldogs with a third place. Raelynn Butler and Elexis Pearson both earned medals, finishing 13th and 25th respectively.

The Bandera Bulldogs Boys Cross Country team also competed at the Islander Splash at the Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi campus.

The team finished 16th out of 41 teams.

Ethan Brown was the team’s top finisher at 36th overall. Six of the seven runners finished in the top 50 percent of the runners.

Individual results were Brown 36th, Logan Dybowski 80th, Kelly Columbia 111th, Sam Nimmrichter 139th, Jacob Haas 158th, Jesus Rodriguez 165th, and Josh Short 226th.

All Bandera Cross Country teams will compete in the McNeil Invitational at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock on Saturday, Sept. 28. It’s the same course where the state meet will be held later in the year.

Brooke Ashcraft is the assistant athletic director and Girls Cross Country coach at Bandera High School.
