Thursday, Oct. 17 A presentation about Medicare plans, including prescription drug plans, Medicare Advantage and supplements will be provided at the Bandera County Public Library from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A certified benefits counselor will lead the presentation and will be available to talk to visitors about their individual needs. The Arthur Nagel Community clinic will host a countywide health fair at the recreation center in Mansfield Park from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Christus Santa Rosa will be on hand providing mammograms, the South Texas Blood and Tissue Center will accept blood donations, a limited amount of flu shots will be dispensed, blood pressure examinations and blood glucose screenings will be available and other information will be provided at the event, which is free. The park is located at 2886 Highway 16 North outside of Bandera.
How to make decorative fabric pumpkins and other fall creations will be the topic of the Madrona Garden and Social Club of Bandera when it meets at 1 p.m. at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church in Bandera, 395 Highway 173 North. The session is free and open to public, but participants are asked to bring one-fourth-to-one-half-of-a-yard of fabric, needles, thread, scissors and embroidery floss to the workshop.
Saturday, Oct. 19 Pipe Creek Presbyterian Little Rock Church will hold a Market Day sale offering a variety of artwork, handmade items, jams and jellies and other goods from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the church, which is at 8589 Highway 16 South in Pipe Creek. For the first time, it also will feature a chili cookoff sanctioned by the Chili Appreciation Society International. Organizers said about 25 vendors will offer goods to the public at the annual event, which also will have hamburgers and cheeseburgers for sale along with a bake sale. Admission is free. Proceeds from the sale go to both the church and to the Castle Lake Ranch Volunteer Fire Department.
A Yard Sale fundraiser will be held by the Walker Community Church in Wharton’s Dock from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with proceeds benefitting the church’s building repairs fund. Household furnishings, fishing equipment, tools, outside toys and other items have been collected by the church to offer at the sale since the beginning of October. A bake sale also will be part of the fundraiser, which will be conducted on a cash-only basis. The church is at 8135 Wharton’s Dock Road.
