Property tax legislation moves forward

A recent report from the Texas Comptroller indicated property taxes accounted for almost half of all statewide tax collections in 2019, an uptick of 57 percent since 2012, but a bill seeks to change that. “While Texas is generally viewed as a low-tax state, the dirty little secret is that our property tax rates are among the highest in the nation,” said state Representative Andrew Murr, who represents District 53, which includes Bandera, Medina, Kerr, Real and nine other counties.
