The Bandera County Democratic Club met August 14 at the Silver Sage for an interactive presentation from Joseph Larry Jackson titled “What You Believe shows Up in Your Results Over Time” that focused on improving one’s own inclusive behaviors.

Jackson is a 30-year veteran of the hospitality industry’s full-service segment and owner and president of Breaking PAR: Diversity Course Management LLC, a hospitality development company with an emphasis on corporate responsibility, diversity enrichment and improving inclusive behaviors within the industry. He has worked with numerous national, state and industry organizations to increase the significance and the eventual leadership promotions of underrepresented groups.

“Inclusion confidence is about knowing who we are as individuals based on our beliefs from previous successes,” Jackson said. “Therefore, inclusion is collectively merging successful proven strategies to create and embrace what we want to accomplish as a team, community, or corporation.”

Jackson stated inclusiveness is not only about bringing someone into the fold because they are of a different gender or race/ ethnicity or socioeconomic status or culture or gender preference or political persuasion.

He went on to say individuals can have beliefs that result in behaviors that hold them back, and these perceptions of the world sometimes have to be “tweaked” to find personal “inner balance,” which is fundamental to creating authentic and successful environments of inclusion.

Following Joseph’s talk, Club President Eloise Clayton, commenced the business meeting, reporting membership had increased to 55 members for 2021.

She recognized and thanked those volunteers who participated in the July Adopt-a-Highway trash pick up.

Tom Denyer presented data from the 2020 Bandera Democratic voter turnout and strategies were discussed involving Get Out the Vote for the upcoming 2022 election cycle.

Bandera County Democratic Chair Lynn Oliver gave thanks to members who participated in voter registration booths at the Back-to-School Bash events sponsored by Hill Country Samaritans earlier this month.

Plans for setting up a booth at the Labor Day weekend’s Bandera Round Up event and sponsoring a table at the Nagel clinic’s Cork and Fork fundraiser for the Nagel Clinic in November were also discussed.

Next month’s meeting is scheduled for Saturday, September 11, at the BEC Community Room. A meet and greet with covered dish lunch will be held from 11 a.m. to noon. General meeting begins after.
