Editor’s note: This is the first column in a series of articles planned by Dr. Jerry Hollingsworth, the superintendent of the Bandera Independent School District, about activities in and issues affecting the school district. The columns will be published periodically.

In Bandera ISD, our vision is to be a small-town district creating a worldwide impact. This year, I plan to bring you a column periodically to share the countless ways our students and staff are creating an impact on the world as a whole and in the individual “worlds” of each child we serve.

We view our work as a great privilege.

Over the past several months, we engaged our community, our staff and our students in a process to articulate our Vision and Core Values.

We asked a lot of questions and listened...a lot. The result was a unique set of core values that define what we want our district to be about - the things we seek to live out on a daily basis.

We value celebrating successes because we believe through all our accomplishments, we instill pride into our community.

Celebrating is a natural thing to do in Bandera. We have highly accomplished students who excel in academics, the arts and athletics. When our students succeed, we all succeed!

We value small-town support and relationships because we believe shared responsibility is the backbone of our community.

We love small-town living and believe it’s one of our greatest strengths. We proudly share the responsibility of growing responsible citizens with our neighbors, our churches, our community and with you.

We value choices in learning experiences because we believe choices cultivate growth and individual pride.

In BISD, we know that no two children are exactly alike; therefore, they shouldn’t be expected to learn in the same way.

Every day, we strive to offer choices for our students that match the way they learn best. We seek to call out each child’s God-given gifts and talents - to help them discover who they were created to be.

We value passionate people of integrity because we believe they have a positive impact on themselves, our community and the future.

Passion and integrity are not just words to us. We practice them every day. We model these values for our students, but it’s also the way we hire our employees.

We’re passionate about learning, and we want that to be evident in everything we do.

Thank you for the opportunity to share with you about Bandera ISD. We are smaller. We believe we offer something better.

Come create with us.
