Don Chepe’s Restaurant and Bar on Main Street in Bandera celebrated its oneyear anniversary on March 1.

To celebrate, owner Jose Esparza brought in delicious Mexican pastries to mark the occasion and share with his customers. The pastries were a hit with the diners during the day. Esparza estimates around 200 diners came out to enjoy a meal on the restaurant’s anniversary.

Esparza comes from a family who is deeply involved in the food service industry. They have had restaurants in Kerrville and Corpus Christi for the last 15 years. This is Esparza’s first restaurant, and he is notably proud of it.

Opening during the height of the COVID-19 closures, Esparza had to work hard to stay open. Even though the business community suffered under the closures, Esparza remained positive and upbeat. He was determined to make his first business a success.

“We work harder to make the restaurant better and better,” Esparza said, adding the restaurant staff is like a family who all works together to make the restaurant a great place to eat.

Looking to the future, Esparza said he would like to explore the idea of bringing a seafood restaurant to Bandera.

“I would like to thank everyone for your support. We plan to keep improving Don Chepe’s,” he remarked. “I am really blessed and will continue to do my best.”

With a house full of smiling, hungry customers, it seems like Esparza has tapped into the recipe for success.

Don Chepe’s Restaurant and Bar is open every day of the week from 7 a.m. for breakfast until 9 p.m., except on Sundays, when they close at 2 p.m.
