Bandera Library happenings
There’s lots going on here at the Bandera Library. April is Autism Acceptance Month, and the library has been busy developing our resources to be an Autism friendly library. Thanks to a grant from the Alkek Foundation last year, we have installed better signage, added tools and resources available for in-library use for our patrons who are neurodivergent, and we have added close to 40 new titles on autism for children, teens and adults. Our genealogy room is being updated so that it can function as a calming space as well. Tomorrow, April 14th come by the library for a meet and greet with Bandera author and storyteller extraordinaire, Glenn Clark. Clark has been a longtime contributor to the Bandera Bulletin with his column titled “Growing Up in Bandera.” His anecdotes and knowledge of local history has been compiled into a book that is now available. Clark will be at the library from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. to sign copies of his book.
Saturday, April 16th the library will be closed for the Easter holiday. On behalf of the library staff, we hope you have a wonderful, love and fun-filled holiday!
Mondays at 10 a.m. is our weekly watercolor class in the Downstairs Meeting Room. The library has limited supplies so feel free to bring your favorite paints and brushes. All levels are welcome. At 4:30 p.m. is the weekly meet up of our official Pokémon League also in the Downstairs Meeting Room. The group plays Pokémon: The Card Game and discusses their favorite manga and anime.
Manga is a type of comic book or graphic novel originally produced in Japan. The library is developing our collection of this popular style of reading for the Teen Center. If you or your teen has a favorite manga series let a member of the library staff know and we will do our best to make sure it is available.
The Bandera Library is open Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Curbside service is available for checkouts and business services. Free Wi-Fi is available 24/7.
