Medina Girls’ Cross Country runner Charli Mc-Cabe is going to the state meet in Round Rock on Saturday, Nov. 9, to represent the Medina Independent School District.
“It makes me nervous to know I am doing this for my school, and I am really excited to see how good I can do,” McCabe, a freshman, said in a Bulletin interview with the Bobcat runner and her Coach Missy Pump.
McCabe started running cross country in the seventh grade when a junior high coach invited her to join the team, and she continued the next year.
“I wanted to run just to see what it was like. When we got to regionals, something clicked in my brain that said ‘you want this.’ I want to see how far I can go,” the runner explained.
Coach Pump worked with McCabe in junior high and this year.
“Charli has greatly improved from last year, and I had great expectations that this would happen (getting to state),” Pump said.
“The words that got us through this year are ‘motivated people find a way’,” she said.
McCabe will run in the state meet Saturday at 8:30 a.m. at the Old Setters Park.
