Lady Dogs down Pearsall

The Bandera Lady Bulldogs beat Pearsall 53-48 on Nov. 19, capitalizing on a strong start, solid rebounding and excellent defense.

In the first quarter, Kristin Salas came out hot, hitting two, 3-pointers, and Breanna Stimmell hit one as well.

The Lady Dogs also had several “and-one” opportunities and capitalized on many of them. After one quarter the Lady Dogs were up 19-14.

In the second quarter, the Lady Bulldogs continued to play exceptional defense. Bandera also took the ball to the hole and forced Pearsall into foul trouble in the first half. Stimmell, Summer Haby, Madison Leal, Chelsey Graves and Liz MacNeil drew fouls with phenomenal drives and made it to the line in the second quarter.

The Lady Dogs went 8-for-13 on the line, and Araya Mendiola scored 2 to keep the Lady Dogs ahead of Pearsall going into halftime, 29-25.

The Lady Bulldogs won the third quarter as well. Leal was found often and fast by Stimmell on several fast breaks, scoring 5. Salas had 4 points, and Stimmell continued to take the ball to the hole, going to the line and making both free throws she earned.

In the fourth quarter, the Lady Dogs put Pearsall away with excellent team defensive stops, steals and deflections. Stimmell scored 9, MacNeil scored 2 and Graves, Mendiola and MacNeil all earned trips to the line for free throws.

Along with great shots, drives to the basket and free-throw shooting, the Lady Dogs had great rebounding on both ends by Graves, Leal, and Anna Guajardo throughout the game.

The Lady Dogs have a break until after Thanksgiving and are looking to come back fired up and ready to work. The next game is at home on Tuesday, Dec. 3 against Devine.
