Last Saturday, 52 athletes flocked to Horseshoe Bend Disc Golf Course for the first annual Helping Hands Charity Open disc golf tournament, with proceeds benefiting Helping Hand, a local nonprofit crisis intervention center.

Players from Bandera, Austin, San Antonio and other cities showed up to play for the tournament, where the weather was cool and windy for the duration of the event.

“The tournament was a great success,” said tournament cohost Damon Cheswick. “I was really only anticipating 35 players, but day-of signups brought the total to 52.”

Community sponsorships for the tournament included Bandera Bank, Hondo National Bank, Grimes Funeral Home, Omni Wholesale Equipment, Bandera True Value, Bandera United Methodist Church, D-Spain Sales and several contributions from individuals and families.
