Coaches of Bandera High School’s Boy’s and Girl’s Powerlifting teams praised the performances of their teams at regional competitions earlier in March, as the girl’s team had five members qualify for the state competition, and the boy’s team sent one member to the state contest.
In the girl’s regional contest at PSJA Southwest High School on March 6, the Lady Bulldogs finished fifth out of 32 schools, according to information reported on the Bandera Independent School District Twitter page.
The five girls who qualified for the regional contest performed well enough to make it to state, which will be held in Waco on Friday, March 20.
Those heading to state are Caitlin Watson, Kimberly Salinas, Penelope Garcia, Kylee Hensley and Anna Freeman.
Watson is a defending state champion who is heading back to the state contest in a different weight class, officials said.
The Bulldogs Boy’s Powerlifting team had four members compete at the regional contest on Friday, March 13, in Bishop.
One, Ethan Brown, won the regional championship in his weight class and will be moving on to the state finals in Abilene on March 28.
Also competing at the boy’s regional contest were Brian Burns, Colton Perkins and ZakaryVVidenor. Coaches congratulated them on a great year.
