Faith Angler Network, or FAN, South held its first high school bass fishing tournament on Medina Lake on Saturday, Feb. 22, and drew a big crowd of young anglers and supporters.

‘We had a great response to this first youth bass fishing event at Medina Lake,” said Justin Rieger, vice president of FAN South, about the 60 boats and 120 young anglers, fishing in teams of two, at the lake.

“A lot of big bass were caught, and many of the contestants got their limit of five bass,” Rieger said.

He said FAN would like to make the youth fishing contest an annual event.

Jessica Thomas both worked at the event and cheered for her son, Aaden Thomas, and his friend Lane Carpenter, both high school freshmen in the New Braunfels area, who won first place at the tournament.

“These boys are in their second season of being partners and are so grateful to their captain, Brad Nichols, for mentoring them through the season,” said Jessica Thomas. “My son said this event at Medina Lake was the most exciting tournament in his career, and he looks forward to more tournaments in the future.”
