The Medina Lady Bobcats basketball team crossed swords last with Nueces Canyon girls over the past weekend, ultimately falling 56-40 in a hard-fought game.
Our Girls Basketball played an outstanding game against the pre-season State Ranked Nueces Canyon girls. We knew they would be good, and we had a plan and the girls did a great job executing the plan,” said Coach Cully Doyle.
I was very proud of the overall effort. We had the game tied up 36-36 with six minutes left in the game and had a little adversity fall in our lap.
It always hurts when a player goes down and has to leave the game and Cydney Newsom was playing great when she went down with an injury that kept her out a few minutes in that stretch during the fourth quarter.
Newsom eventually come back in the game with about two minutes left but the team had more adversity when Hallie Kunz fouled out with too much time on the clock.
Hallie was playing hard like always and hard to replace on defense. When these two girls are off the court our flow was a little off as we started the game with Loren Delagarza on the bench because of a shoulder injury.
I couldn't ask for anything more from these girls that night. I believe in this group, and I believe this girls team is as good as anyone when they play as hard as they did last against Nueces Canyon.
We have put ourselves in a whole trying to make the playoffs for the first time in several years and now the girls know what they have to do in the next couple of games.
These girls are very capable and it will be exciting to see what happens.
The Lady Bobcats will take on D’Hanis at home on Tuesday. February 8.
