COVID-19 response requires new focus
Today, there are approximately 40,000 new cases of COVID-19 daily in the U.S. That compares to about 22,000 daily only three months ago.
Recently, the POTUS (President of the United States) said, “It’s (COVID-19) going to disappear. We have it totally under control. When it gets a little warmer, it miraculously goes away. One day, it’s like a miracle, it will disappear. We’re prepared and we’re doing a great job with it. And it will go away. Just stay calm; it will go away.”
When the number of new cases doubles in only three months, that indicates that it is not under control.
Infectious diseases do not “miraculously” go away. They must be controlled with measures such as the use of efficacious antibiotics (which we don’t have), vaccinations (which we don’t have), enforced laws concerning quarantines, protective devices etc. (which we don’t have) and the belief that human lives are worth more than money (which the government and business leaders of this country certainly do not believe).
Until we have leaders who put the health of the public ahead of their monetary and political desires, we will continue to lose people to COVID-19.
Until all of us are willing to put aside our differences and work together, COVID-19 will only disappear when a lot more of us are dead.
