Larry Wayne Upton, 76, passed away September 5, 2021 at his home in Meadowlakes, Texas. He was born in San Antonio, Texas on June 26, 1945 to William and Selma Upton.

Larry was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, graduating from Edison High School. He joined the Navy and served his country for four years. Upon return from his service he joined the San Antonio Fire Department where he worked for 30 years retiring as a Captain in 1996.

Living in both Pipe Creek and Bandera during his working years, Larry built and ran two car washes and was very active in the community. He served as a little league coach and umpire, volunteered at countless school events, and was a vital contributor to the Athletic Booster Club and the Bandera Athletic Capital Improvements Team (BACIT). Larry believed strongly in supporting his community especially through helping kids.

In retirement, Larry spent most of his time on his home golf courses, first at the Flying L in Bandera and then at Hidden Falls at Meadowlakes. He loved the challenge of the game and moreover the great friendships forged before, during, and after his rounds.

Larry had a smile that could light up a room and a quick wit and great sense of humor. He was a joy to be around and will be missed dearly by his family and friends.

Larry is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jerry Upton, his two sons Brad Upton and Wes Upton, his sister Sandra Holmes, his three grandchildren: Ashley Murray, Alex Upton, and Kayla Upton, and his great-granddaughter Bristol Murray.
