Turning Point founder Charlie Kirk coming to Bandera

Posted in:

Charlie Kirk, founder and president of Turning Point USA (TPUSA), will hold an event at the Flying L Ranch this Friday, April 30. Susan Howard, who played Donna in the television show “Dallas” will also be at the event.

The 27-year-old Kirk was listed on the 2018 “Forbes 30 Under 30” and spoke at the 2016 Republican National Convention.

TPUSA, founded in 2012 and boasting multiple chapters across the United States, lists its mission on its website as being “to educate students about the importance of fiscal responsibility, free markets, and limited government. TPUSA activists are the community organizers of the right.”

In 2019 Kirk became the chairman of Students for Trump and co-founded the since-renamed Falkirk Center for Faith and Liberty with Jerry Falwell Jr. at Liberty University.

Charlie Kirk currently has 1.7 million followers on Twitter, where tweets referring to COVID-19 as “the China virus” were retweeted by Donald Trump during his presidency.

“Every single time I go into one of these grocery stores, ‘Where’s your mask?’ I say, well first of all, the science around masks is very questionable, very questionable,” Kirk said on his podcast in July of last year.

Charlie Kirk is scheduled to return to the Young Women’s Leadership Summit in June. Last year’s speakers included Kirk, Charlotte Pence, daughter of Mike Pence, Dana Loesch of the National Rifle Association, Fox News Commentator Kat Timpf and more.

“Charlie Kirk is one of my heros. He’s brilliant and uses his brilliance to challenge the woke, cancel culture, elitist mentality that thinks they are smarter than anyone else,” said Lynn Haueter, Chair of the Bandera Republican Party.

“His honest and frank communication has made him one of the most popular young speakers in America. I’m thrilled he is coming to our little corner of the world here in Bandera,” she said

Becky Lay, Chairman of the Bandera County Republican Party Election Integrity Committee, also expressed her excitement.

“The Bandera Republican Party is thrilled to have someone of Charlie Kirk’s reputation visit our small town. It speaks well for our members as a whole that we would extend an invitation to someone of his notoriety, and to Mr. Kirk’s character that he would forgo larger towns to visit one our size,” she said. “We look forward to this special evening as everyone has worked very hard, not just in the Republican party, but the community as a whole.”

The Bandera County Democrats declined to comment.

Friday’s event is sponsored by the Bandera County Republican Party, Flying L Ranch Resort, Fredericksburg Tea Party, Liber in Action Texas, and Full Fusion.

An hour-long VIP reception begins at 4:30, followed by a “sign and smile” event. A BBQ dinner and program followed by a campfire Q&A begins at seven. There will be a cash bar.

Tickets for the VIP reception are priced at $250 each. General admission is $50 online and $50 at the door. Student tickets are $20 online and $25 at the door. Children age 12 and under are free.
