Summer Reading is coming to the Lakehills Area Library!

You can register for summer reading at the library and get your child’s reading log. When a child completes their log, they will be able to pick a prize from our prize box. This is a great way to keep your child reading all summer long and have them prepared for school when it resumes in the fall. We have a huge selection of books for children of all ages, so come check them out!

Starting Monday, June 7, the library will have crafting kits available for pick up. This year’s theme is Tails & Tales, and each week we are focusing on either a fairy tale or animals.

Preschoolers will receive a craft to make their own hand mirror; elementary students and older students will receive a kit to decorate their own wall mirror. All supplies are included.

The library will be having a free class offered in conjunction with Alamo Hospice Thursday, June 10, at 6:30 p.m. to help get your important paperwork prepared with ease.

Class participants will make an advance directive, medical power of attorney and, if they wish, a DNR order. To register, call 830-510-2777.

Social distancing and masks will be required. If the class fills up, we will have a waitlist and will hold more classes as needed.

Live book club has resumed! We are now meeting live and in person on the library back porch the second Tuesday of every month. Because it is outside, no masks are required.

In June, the book club will be discussing “The Huntress” by Katie Quinn. Nina is a former Soviet aviatrix who is trying to track down a Nazi war criminal known as The Huntress. The Huntress disappeared after the end of the war, but is known mainly for offering survivors refuge and then murdering them. Nina joins forces with Ian, a former war correspondent whose younger brother was murdered by The Huntress.

Meanwhile, Jordan is a young woman and aspiring photographer in Boston who is suspicious of a woman her father has recently married. Annaliese is beautiful and caring, but clearly has something she’s hiding. As Nina, Ian and Jordan’s paths converge, they’ll need to come to terms with their pasts and utilize all of their collective skills in order to bring justice to their elusive target.

The Lakehills Area Library would like to say a very special thank you to the J. Frank Dobie Library Trust for its generous grant of $10,000 to purchase books for the library. The grant will cover one year of book expenses for the library. We are so grateful for their support.

We are actively seeking out representatives of the community to serve on the board. You can pick up a board application at the front desk next time you visit us.

Library cards are free and available to everyone. If you are worried about getting your materials back on time, not only do you receive automatic notifications on your phone or by email, but we do not have late fees!

Come and use this amazing community resource Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 10 a.m. - 5p.m., Tuesday and Thursday 10 a.m. -6 p.m., and Saturday 10 a. M. - 2 p.m..

Dianna Landes is the Director of the Lakehills Area Library.
