The Senate unanimously passed a resolution introduced by U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King designating Saturday, December 18th, 2021, as “Wreaths Across America Day,” and earlier this week The Medina ISD Family, Career and Community Leaders (FCCLA) proudly announces Medina Oak Rest Cemetery and West Prong Cemetery as official locations for the 2021 National Wreaths Across America Day.

These local cemeteries will join the more than 2,100 participating locations across the country to Remember, Honor, and Teach on Saturday, Dec. 18, 2021, at 12:00pm.

Everyone is welcome to join the students and members of the Bandera American Legion Post 157 in laying the wreaths starting at the Oak Rest Cemetery visible from Highway 16 S at 473 Orchard Park Blvd, Medina. This is a wonderful kick-off holiday event for the entire family. Contact Sherri Kelly at 830-460-1611 or sherrik@medinaisd. org.

The goal for Site-Coordinator Alexis Crowther and the FCCLA Chapter is to raise enough funds to place veterans’ wreaths on the headstones of all the local heroes laid to rest here, to ensure that the individuals who served to protect the freedoms of our country, never be forgotten and to bring the community together in patriotic commemoration.

Wreaths Across America started as a simple gesture of thanks that, over the last ten years, has grown into a national movement of dedicated volunteers and communities coming together to not only remember the nation’s fallen and honor their service but to teach the next generation about the sacrifices made for us to live freely.

“Wreaths Across America is a powerful demonstration of respect and appreciation for our veterans – both those that we’ve lost and those still with us,” said Senators Collins and King in a joint statement. “We are so proud that this heartfelt expression of gratitude originated in our great state and has become an enduring symbol of our nation’s gratitude for veterans’ valor and sacrifice. This resolution remembers and honors America’s veterans this holiday season, while also teaching younger generations of the sacrifices that have been made to secure our freedoms and to defend our liberty.”
