The Bandera High School Academic Decathlon team earned a firstplace finish in the small school division (4a) during Round 1 competition at King High School in Corpus Christi. The competition was a challenge, but the team surged ahead to win in the end. Every team member brought home individual medals. Five BHS team members earned overall high-score medals. The final medal count was 44 medals for Bandera High School.

In the Varsity Division, Chandler Knowles won 1st place overall. He earned individual medals in: Essay – gold, Speech – gold, Interview – gold, Math – gold, Music – silver, Art – gold, Economics – silver, Science – gold, Literature – silver and Social Studies – silver. Christopher Pallesen won 2nd place overall. He won individual medals in: Essay – silver, Music – bronze, Art – silver, Science – bronze, and Literature – bronze. Karina Garcia won a bronze medal in Speech.

In the Scholastic Division, Emily Ramos won 2nd overall. She brought home individual medals in: Music – gold, Art – bronze, Economics-silver, Science – gold, Literature – bronze, and Social Science – silver. Laurel Morsi won: Essay – gold, Music – silver, Artsilver, Science-silver, and Literature - bronze.

In the Honors Division, Savannah Venegas came in 2nd overall. She earned medals in: Interview – bronze, Music – silver, Literature – silver, and Social Science – silver. Megan Mize came in third place overall in the Honors Division. She brought home medals in: Speech – gold, Math –bronze, Music – bronze, Art – gold, Economics – silver, and Literature – silver. William “Ozzie” Knowles brought home medals in: Artbronze and Science – gold.

This year’s curriculum theme is “Water: A Most Essential Resource.” Students will participate in speeches, essays, and interviews. They will answer subject matter tests based on this topic. Subject matter tests include tests in science, literature, art, music, social science, economics, and mathematics.
