The Medina Community Library hosted a heartwarming community service project on Wednesday, as children ages 6 and up, known as the “BIGS,” gathered to contribute to the library’s summer reading program theme, “All Together Now.”

Directed by Alison Harbour, the library aimed to instill values of kindness, community, and friendship among its young readers.

“I think we have a found a new tradition for our library,” said Harbour.

The initiative saw an outpouring of support from both community members and summer reading families, who generously donated an array of items including snacks, soap, notepads, stickers, combs, and much more.

To further enhance the experience, the library collaborated with SEAL and NASA to provide eclipse glasses and essential safety information to the participants. All the donated items were thoughtfully placed in a beautifully decorated tub, with a piece of yarn tied around it.

These tubs will soon be distributed to Medina community members who receive Meals on Wheels, are shut-ins, or simply in need of a lift and a caring note.

The summer readers, along with their parents and grandparents, were overjoyed to take part in this meaningful project, as they eagerly assembled the tubs and contributed to the betterment of their community.

The success and positive response to this endeavor have led Harbour to consider making it an annual tradition for the Medina Community Library.
