On April 8, Bandera resident and local organizer Bob Brischetto coordinated with the Bandera Knights of Columbus (KOC) to repair the steps of Bandera resident Mark Conger, who is also a Meals-on-Wheels (MOW) recipient paralyzed on one side of his body.

This follows after Brischetto, who is also a volunteer driver for MOW, identified a persistent need by many MOW residents for critical assistance such as trash pickup and home safety issues.

Conger’s stairs were falling apart, creating a challenge for him.

KOC’s Mike Loyd brought a crew and rebuilt Conger’s front porch with their own tools and supplies. Their next step is to clean up materials and trash that have accumulated around Conger’s home. The Bandera KOC has a crew that has done other repair projects similar to this.

To date, several MOW clients have requested help in cleaning up their trash, which they cannot otherwise afford or physically remove themselves.

This spurred Brischetto to begin The Bandera County Trash Initiative.

Brischetto has been recruiting people to help out and they have broadened it to a county-wide effort, which includes right-of-way road pickup and assistance to individuals who need help in hauling away their buildup of trash.

The group will meet to make plans on April 22 at 7:00 p.m. at the Lakehills Community Center on Rt. 37.

Brischetto invites Bandera County residents to show up to the meeting.
