Church launches highway cleanup

The First Baptist Church of Bandera was looking for ways its Missions Team could be more involved in the community, and someone mentioned the idea of a highway trash cleanup.

“They all loved it,” said Mark Carona, the leader of the program.

The first cleanup event was held Saturday, June 12, along the two-mile section of Hwy 173 North from FM 3240, selected by the group as part of TxDOT’s Adopt a Highway program.

By the end of the day, 15 volunteers had collect ed 59 large bags of trash.

“We will be doing it quarterly for at least two years,” said First Baptist Church Pastor Chris McClain

First Baptist Church is located at 1302 Pecan Street in Bandera.
