American Legion Post 410 in Lakehills and the Lakehills Community Center worked together on a program called Interactive Kids Time with the Legion.

The first event was held on Tuesday, June 22, at the Community Center and was called “Learning to March: Why and How.”

Five middle school age kids showed up for the event and showed a strong interest in learning different marching styles and ways.

The five children, Helen Smith, Simon Smith, Ethan Beedle, Dominic Beedle and Tripp Dietzfirst learned some history about the U.S. military from Post 410 member Tom Kral.

Kral told the children to watch how adult veterans marched and then attempt to replicate it as best they could.

After a while, the children weren’t too shabby, thanks to tips and practice from the knowledgeable veterans.

“The marching event was an expansion of how Post 410 wants to work with young people in our area,” Kral said.

Kral added that expansion could include the Bandera Boys & Girls Club of Bandera County and BISD’s elementary schools in the near future.
