Almost 1,000 Bandera County area school students received new backpacks filled with school supplies over the weekend for the upcoming school year thanks to two Back to School Bash events held last Friday and Saturday.

Backpacks filled with school supplies were given to Utopia and Medina Independent School District on Saturday at the Medina Children’s Home and to Bandera ISD students on Sunday at the Lakehills Community Center.

“Hill Country Samaritans wants to give Bandera County the biggest thank you possible for being the generous and kind community that it is,” said event coordinator Kelly Beedle

“The support shown to these kids and their families is amazing. Coming together as communities to celebrate was fantastic. We thank God for all His blessings,” she said.

Homeschoolers and private schoolers also attended and benefitted from the two events.

Beedle said HCS started the event in 2018, holding a drive-thru event in 2021.

This year was the first time the event had been spread over two days.

In the addition to the school supplies, attendees got to enjoy giant water slides, water dunking, football throwing and other fun activities that were made even better by the nice weekend weather.
