The Bandera Bulldogs penned the Fox Tech Buffaloes on Tuesday night defeating them by a score of 79 to 49. Bandera scored in the first quarter when Tyler Moore hit the first Bulldog basket at the 6:20 mark. Then the Bulldogs started a scoring run that Fox Tech could not answer. Everybody on the starting line up added to the point total while the Buffs just tried to play catch up. The Bulldogs exhibited lots of energy and hustle. Of note was Luke Barnett’s 2 steals during the first quarter. Bandera ended the quarter with 20 points to Fox Tech’s 9 points.

The second quarter started out when Liam DeMarchi fed the ball to Tyler Moore on the baseline for a 3 pointer. Noah Barnett drove up the center for a basket while Kayden Brown came back for another two pointer.

Brown needs to change his name to “The Timex” cause he took a “lickin’ and kept on tickin.” Always in the thick of the play for rebounds, Brown frequently was on the receiving end of very physical play by the Buffs. He took a shot to the mouth, but waved Coach Keane off and kept on playing. His hustle and energy were exceptional on Tuesday night. Whenever there was opportunity play, Brown was in the middle of it.

Elijah Salas showed his talent from the three-point line during the second quarter by scoring two three pointers. DeMarchi continued his domination under the basket by putting 4 on the scoreboard. The second quarter ended, and the Bulldogs went into half-time at 39 while the Buffs were held to just 17 points.

The Bulldogs maintained their 20-point lead in the third quarter. Ryan Perez, a fan favorite, started the quarter with a pass from Kayden Brown which Perez converted to a three-point shot. Gavin Ortiz came back with a 2 from the floor.

The Bulldogs started trying to expand their three-point shooting but had plenty of misses from the 3-point line. Perez, however, came up with a shot from downtown to bring the Bulldogs up to 47. DeMarchi got more aggressive when he picked off a Buffs pass and started a fast break down court to the Bulldog goal which resulted in another 2 points. The quarter ended with the Bulldogs showing 57 on the scoreboard to Fox Tech’s 35.By the fourth quarter, the Buffs looked visibly winded. They made points but could not catch up to the strong scoring Bulldogs. Joseph Kennedy threw up a long 3 which Kyle Morgan helped with the tip in. The Bulldogs showed superior teamwork in the game which easily demonstrates their potential to go deep into the playoffs.

Elijah Salas put up another 3 pointer, his fifth for the night, and Joseph Kennedy scored a 2. Kayden Brown kept the pressure on with wicked sharp ball handling. De-Marchi put in another two before Perez stole the ball from Fox Tech and made an on-the-fly basket. Tyler Moore drove the ball up court all the way to the basket where he put up an easy 2-point lay-up. Joseph Kennedy and Liam DeMarchi put in baskets to bring the Bulldogs to a final point total of 79. The Buffs ended the game at 49.

The Bulldogs traveled to Comal Davenport on Friday, January 14, winning the game 56046.

The team returned to play at the BHS Competition Gym against Canyon Lake on Tuesday, January 18. Results of that game were not available by the Bulletin’s deadline.

The Bulldogs’ varsity team is 18-7 overall and 1-0 in district.
