The Lady Bulldogs lost a difficult game to the Lady Wolves from Davenport High School. But the final score of 37 to 74 doesn’t paint an accurate picture of a hard-fought game where the Lady Bulldogs ran into some tough luck.

During the first quarter, senior Katie Dibrell was the first Bulldog to score, and Estella Calderon followed up with a goal from the lane. Calderon was showing her usual spicy moves when Davenport started a spate of wild shooting that did not result in scoring. The Lady Wolves got themselves together and started shooting threes like they were easy layups. At the end of the quarter, starter Bel Kennedy injured her knee and would sit out the rest of the game. The scoreboard showed Bandera with 5 points to Davenport’s 23 when time ran out.

In the second quarter, the Lady Bulldogs got their game together but still couldn’t make up the first quarter deficit of points. Hannah Edwards stepped in and began playing great defense as well as putting in some needed shots. Calderon went head-to-head with much taller Davenport players for rebounds under the goal. Tatum Trevino gave her all and more fighting for the ball with Davenport. Calderon sank another two and Dibrell came up with another three. The Lady Bulldogs came up with 17 points to Davenport’s 39 at the half.

Hannah Edwards started off the third quarter with a two from a fast break. Summer Haby took a hard charge from a Lady Wolf that knocked her to the floor. Stella Calderon took on the Lady Wolves for each loose ball. At the four-minute mark, the score was 19 to 50 in favor of the Lady Wolves. Hannah Edwards made two foul shots and Stella Calderon put in a three. The Lady Bulldogs were struggling to get in the zone and get their mojo together. The quarter ended with Davenport scoring 63 to Bandera’s 26.

Summer Haby showed a spark during the fourth quarter and began targeting Davenport players from whom to draw fouls. Katie Dibrell and Taylor Hamilton both put in twos. Hamilton made the most of her height by doing a hard block on a Lady Wolf taking the ball down court for a score. At this point, the Lady Wolves and the Lady Bulldogs had added 11 more points to the total for both sides. The Lady Bulldogs could not overcome their first half scoring to catch the Lady Wolves by the end of the game.

The Lady Bulldogs showed grace under pressure when losing one of their starting players early on and experiencing some questionable calls by the refs. The Lady Wolves were much taller and frequently used that height to strip the ball from over top of the Bulldogs. All in all, the game came out against the Lady Bulldogs but it did show that players like Cameryn Oullette, Taylor Hamilton, Tatum Trevino and Calie Tripp are ready to step into the game to add value to the play.
