Last week’s Medina Homecoming had a lot of excitement and fun, starting with a pep rally, continuing with the lighting of the school’s giant M and culminating with a neck-and-neck football game.

On Thursday, the school’s pep rally at the Bobcat Gym had the feel of a charged-up live show.

Cheerleaders, students and faculty starred in a number of stunts, including seniors “surfing” on tables carried by other students.

The star of the show was easily the Bobcat Mascot, who took on and beat the Leakey Eagle Mascot in a number of physical contests including running and doing pushups.

One of the funniest physical contests was the hand wresting (or in this case paw and claw wresting). The Bobcat Mascot won that contest then took the Eagle Mascot behind a curtain and came out with a fried chicken box.

After the pep rally, a large group of Bobcats and Bobcat fans moved outdoors for the Lighting of The M to help boost the school spirit. On Friday, the JV Bobcat football team beat Leakey 50-13 and the Varsity Bobcat team beat Leakey 60-56, pulling ahead for the victory in the final moments of the game.

“It was a huge win for us,” said Head Football Coach Mark Coley. “Homecoming. Great opponent. Large crowd. The game was back and forth the entire time and neither team ever got leading by more than a touchdown. The kids played hard every play until the very end, and it paid off. Great effort by great kids and staff,” said Head Football Coach Mark Coley

Medina is now 3-4 overall and 2-0 in District.

Medina has a road game at McDade on Saturday, October 30, and an away game with Nueces Canyon on Friday, Nov. 5.

The homecoming fun continued on Saturday with a parade and Alumni Program, ultimately concluding with a Homecoming Dance.
