COVID: Peterson cancels gala, Nagel hosting vaccine clinic

Peterson Health announced earlier this month that their Gala 2021 event, scheduled for November 6, will be postponed until next year due to COVID-19 concerns.

“Above all things we value the health and safety of the citizens of Kerrville and we feel this is the right decision to make at this time,” said Tom Martin, Executive Director of Peterson Health’s Foundation. “Also a number of employees and medical staff would have been an important part of this event and we want to keep them safe and healthy as well.”

Peterson Health’s website listed ten people currently hospitalized with COVID-19 as of Monday, four of which were vaccinated and five of which were in the ICU.

Meanwhile, the Arthur Nagel Community Clinic will be hosting an immunization clinic for Bandera County residents aged 12 and up tomorrow, October 21, at Pipe Creek Presbyterian Church, located at 8589 Hwy 16 S in Pipe Creek. Vaccines are being provided and administered by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) free of charge.

Options for clinic attendees will be first and second COVID shots and Pfizer booster shots for those who are immune-compromised or have a doctor recommendation.

Those interested seeking a booster shot should bring their COVID-19 vaccination card.

No reservation or appointment is necessary for the clinic. Susan Broa, Nagel’s Clinical Director, said the Pipe Creek church was selected because the clinic felt more people could be served due to its placement in the middle of the county.

“I hope people will take advantage of the clinic and come get vaccinated,” she said, adding that she finds the vaccine percentages in Bandera County concerning.

DSHS reports 51.2 percent of Bandera County residents aged 12 and over have received one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, and 45.07 of that same age group is fully vaccinated.

DSHS listed 52 active COVID-19 in Bandera County as of Monday, down from last week’s count of 63.

There were no new reported deaths as of Monday.
