Twenty years ago, or even two years ago, it would have been considered bizarre to hurl insults at Americans who actively oppose the threat of fascism. Americans have a long history of opposing fascists, from Italy’s Benito Mussolini and Germany’s Adolf Hitler to arguably Russia’s Vladimir Putin. Members of previous generations of my family, and most likely yours too, were not called “anti-fa” when they came back – if they came back– from the battlefields of World War II.
