Bandera Independent School District officials congratulated the Bandera Middle School Robotics Team for winning six trophies at a FIRST LEGO League qualifying competition earlier this month, which will send several groups from BMS to the league’s regional contest on March 8.
Four groups from the team won first or second place awards at the qualifying contest, including the group called the Groovy Gals, who were named the First Place overall champions at the qualifier.
In addition, the team’s Innovation Empire group won first place in the Project category qnd first place in the Robot Challenge category, while winning a Golden Ticket to the Regional Finals, and the group called Robo Rampage won first place in Core Values and claimed a Golden Ticket to the Regional Finals, officials said.
A fourth group from BMS, called Supreme Tech, also claimed a Golden Ticket to the Regional Finals with a second-place finish in Core Values and second place in the Robot Challenge.
Officials said the team won those honors while competing in its first league qualifier.
The LEGO League is a global robotics competition for students ages 9-16 that engages them in research, coding, engineering and problems solving focused on theme-based challenges that the league outlines.
The educational organization FIRST stands for For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology.
