Kerrville First United Methodist Church will host its December Mega Food Pantry on Dec. 15 at Light on the Hill at Mount Wesley, offering fresh food and staples to families ahead of the Christmas holiday.

The distribution will begin at 10 a.m. at 610 Methodist Encampment Road and will continue until all food is given out.

“Every monthly Mega Food Pantry event is important to our community, but the December food distribution takes on even greater significance because we don’t want any of our neighbors to experience hunger during the Christmas season,” said Beth Palmer, the church’s outreach director.

Palmer said the event, held in partnership with the San Antonio Food Bank, is expected to serve about 400 families.

Attendees can receive fresh produce, protein and other nutritious food items through a drive-thru setup designed for quick distribution.

“Collaborating with the Food Bank, we want to eliminate hunger in our community and thus contribute to families’ well-being, especially in these challenging times,” Palmer said.

KFUMC typically mobilizes about 100 volunteers for each Mega Food Pantry to maintain an orderly flow of traffic and ensure efficient distribution.

In addition to its monthly event, Light on the Hill operates a Mustard Seed Pantry and a mobile Mustard Seed Ministry that provide weekly assistance to about 125 families, Palmer said.

Mercy Chefs of Portsmouth, Va., is also operating in the commercial kitchen at Light on the Hill to prepare meals for victims of July’s flooding, along with first responders and volunteers.

Kerrville First United Methodist Church, founded in the 1850s, offers year-round programs guided by the motto “Love God, Love Others, Make a Difference.”
