David came into this world ready to rumble on November 12, 1970, weighing in at 7lbs 5oz, and rocking that extra chromosome like a badge of honor. He attended Medina County Association for Exceptional Citizens (MCAEC), a program started by special needs parents, for their special needs children, before it was mandated for school districts to offer such programs. Through MCAEC, David made crafts and found pride in his work, which allowed him to gain a little independence through his paychecks. David was a proud graduate of Hondo High School (Class of 1990), but his heart beat Bulldog blue for Bandera. Whether cheering on his cousins from the stands or throwing up two thumbs in every photo, he was the undisputed MVP of every family gathering.

Every summer, David trained for the Special Olympics like a true athlete. He brought home medals, made the paper, and made his family proud. His joy was infectious, his spirit unbreakable, and his love was pure and unconditional.

David’s fandom was legendary. He lived and breathed wrestling— WWF, WCW, WWE—you name it. His heroes included Hulk Hogan, Shawn Michaels, Macho Man Randy Savage, The Undertaker, Triple H, Kamala, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka, the entire NWO, and the list goes on. At every family gathering, David would strut like Ric Flair and shout “WOOOO!” with flair that could rival the Nature Boy himself.

When not laying the smackdown, David was a sitcom savant and soap opera scholar. Days of Our

Lives was his daily drama, and he could drop punchlines from The Dukes of

Hazzard and The Jeffersons like a pro.

David’s Heavenly tag team consists of his parents, Carol Teer Martinez and Victor Cavazos; grandparents Brooks Teer and Gladys Breiten Teer Kollman; great-grandparents Oscar Breiten and Ida Lindeburg Breiten Mangold; step-great-grandfather Oscar “O’hey” Mangold; uncle Robert “Bobby” Teer Sr.; aunt Dorothy Marie Teer Alanis and uncle Bruce Alanis.

David leaves behind his fan club members: “Sister,” Raney Lynn Finto, and brother-in-love Robert Finto; nephew Jimmy Stilwell; aunt Anita Jeffery, and uncle Phil Jeffery; aunt Sharon Teer, and cousins Robert “Bobby” Teer Jr., Tracey Teer, Misty Teer, Melanie and Casey “Case-O” Trenkelbach, Brooke and Robert Perez , Phillip Jeffery and Andrea Rogers, Windy and Jeff Munoz, Jolene and Jacob Pavlock , Daniel Alanis, along with a legion of second cousins, great-nieces, and great-nephews who adored him.

David never met a stranger, everyone was a friend, everyone was family, and everyone who met him got a glimpse of Jesus’ love in its purest form. As a follower of Jesus Christ, David enjoyed spreading the love and messages of Jesus, which included his own favorite message of “Jesus don’t fight, He don’t like it!”.

The void David leaves is immeasurable, but his legacy is eternal. He taught us how to love without limits, laugh without shame, and live with flair. So tonight, raise your Diet Coke, throw up those two thumbs, and give your best “WOOOO!” …because David Wayne Cavazos just made Heaven a whole lot louder.
