BARBARA “BOBBIE” RODEN
BARBARA “BOBBIE” RODEN

Born on March 3, 1948, in Hunt County, Texas, to the late Margie C. and Marlin O. Spurgeon, Bobbie lived a life rich in love, faith, and unwavering strength. She dedicated herself to raising her only son Marlin in Bandera, Texas, where they moved in 1986. In Bandera she found a second family in the warm and welcoming community it provided.
For much of her career, Bobbie managed the Diamond T Trading Post, becoming a familiar and cherished presence to all who walked through its doors.
She later worked at HEB in Boerne where she made many cherished friends and didn’t know a stranger. A strong and independent woman, Bobbie embraced life with passion and grit. She loved to two-step the night away, test her luck at bingo and casinos, and soak up the sun at the river or on trips to the beach.
Her longtime partner, Bob Dodd, shared in these adventures, bringing love and companionship to the years they spent together.
Through Bob, Bobbie was fortunate to share time with his children, Synjyn, Shelby, and Dane, who became like family to Marlin and Bobbie over the years. Bobbie was preceded in death by the love of her life, Henry Andrew Roden, as well as brothers Marlin Spurgeon Jr., Lester Spurgeon, Chester Spurgeon, Charles Spurgeon, and James Spurgeon. She is survived by one brother Carl Wayne Spurgeon of Livingston, Texas.
Bobbie leaves behind her beloved son, Marlin Joseph Roden, and daughter-in-law, Jillian Roden; her grandsons, McKrae Decker (Bobbi Wilson) and Rance Roden; and her great-grandchildren, Oliver and Rumer Decker; as well as many nieces and nephews and countless friends who will forever hold her memory close.
Though she has left this world, the imprint of her love and determination will continue to shine in the lives she touched.
A graveside service was held at Azleland Memorial Park in Azle, Texas on Friday June 6, 2025 at 10am.
She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
The family would like to make a special thanks to the staff and nurses at Bandera Nursing and Rehab for their care and support over the last year.
