The Bandera Lady Bulldogs met the Lady Greyhounds on Tuesday at the Bulldog Softball Field. The Lady Greyhounds brought a large crowd to view the game. While the Lady Bulldogs showed a lot of spirit, they couldn’t overcome the powerful pitching and strong batting of Boerne. The Lady Greyhounds scored ten runs in the first three innings and went on to win the game with 13 runs, shutting out the Lady Bulldogs.

“Defensively, we were on our game. We turned a double play at the top of the 5th with a throw from Summer Haby to April Rodriguez. The outfield of Gabby Barrera, Kinlee Lawlis and Riley Smith worked very hard to get to every ball and made only two errors. The bats were starting to come alive, but we were unable to move the runners along the bases to score,” said Coach Samantha Crowley.

Aubrey Mangold’s pitching was consistent and careful. She made three strikeouts and only gave up one walk.

Cailin Ortiz and senior Avery Oullette each made a single for the night. Summer Haby was again a standout at shortstop. April Rodriguez had great at bats.

Left fielder Gabby Barrera saw a lot of action as winds of over 5 mph took the Boerne fly balls and sent them almost exclusively into left field. Batting against the wind was a challenge for both teams.

The Lady Bulldogs met the Wimberley Lady Texans at home on Friday, April 8.

The Bulldogs started out with a double play by Nalyzza Rodriguez and went on to score six runs in the first three innings against the Lady Texans single run.

The fourth inning spelled disaster for the Lady Bulldogs when pitcher Aubrey Mangold left the game with a foot injury. Cailin Ortiz and April Rodriguez each stepped in to pitch a couple of innings, but they could not bring the magic that Mangold had back to the game.

The Lady Texans managed to pull ahead by two runs in the fourth inning to make it 8-6, pulling ahead in the fifth 10-6. They went on to score another 12 runs and the Bulldogs answered that with 11 runs of their own. The final at the end of seven innings was 22-17.

The Lady Bulldogs traveled to Davenport on Tuesday, April 12 and will play Canyon Lake on Thursday, April 14 in their last home game of the year.
