The 2 Gringos Chupacabra Meat Company opened quietly on Saturday, September 4, and their grand opening is scheduled for this Saturday, September 18 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Owner Alton Paris said that 65 percent of their business has been from Bandera locals, despite its location on tourist-friendly Main Street.

The store is filled with Chupacabra spice products, rubs, sauces, other tantalizing accompaniments and a selection of meat.

Paris has been working on his mix of spices for 30 years, starting when he worked on the professional barbeque circuit.

Today, the company has its main office in Marion, and a store in Midland.

“I am blessed by this success beyond my wildest imagination,” Paris said.

The meat counter in the Bandera location provides homemade bacon and sau sage made with no preservatives or water.

Akaushi beef, non-GMO and pasture-raised, stocks the 2 Gringos meat cooler. It has an intense marbling containing a higher percentage of monounsaturated fat.

The 2 Gringos Chupacabra Meat Company is a family affair. Bandera General Manager Dylan Paris, grandson to Alton, is young but has worked at every level in the company.

Even the logo has a family connection. Paris’ wife designed the brand logo by creating a graphic based on the family’s chihuahua.

“We just added big pointy ears and fangs, and there you have it,” Paris laughingly commented.

The 2 Gringos Chupacabra Meat Company is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. On Wednesday, shoppers can take advantage of a 10 percent discount.
