Medina is on the right track as the Bobcats fight their way to the middle of district.

On Friday, January 7, Utopia came to Medina for a district game and went home in a bunch of bandages after a 62-33 beating.

At the half, the Bobcats had a 22-15 lead. In the second half, they stampeded with a full-court press which stymied the Buffaloes.

After three quarters, Medina held a 43-17 lead, and Coach Bill Carter cleared the bench in the final stanza as the Bobcats cruised to a 62-33 victory.

Sophomore T J DeLeon pulled down 13 rebounds and scored 16 points.

Juniors, Wyatt Boatman, Davis Briley, and Dawson Simons all scored in double figures. Boatman had 12 points, Briley had 10 points and Simons chipped in 12 points.

The win put the Bobcats in second place in the district with a 2-1 record.

Overall the varsity has a 10-4 record.

The January 7 victory was preceded by a January 4 victory when Medina travelled to Nueces Canyon for a district contest.

Using a tough zone defense, the Bobcats boys held the Panthers to 15 points in the first half and 5 points in the fourth quarter.

In the meantime, Dawson Simons was pouring in 23 points for Medina. Wyatt Boatman added 10 points, and the Bobcats came away with a 54-35 victory.

This Friday Medina is back into action at D’Hanis when they take on the Cowboys.

“We must be mentally focused and physically ready for a tough game. D’Hanis beat us easily in our tournament. Our execution and mental attitude must be excellent if we are going to challenge them,” Coach Carter said.
