Medina hosted its 71st Medina Athletic Booster Club Basketball tournament and it went super smooth. Hats off to many people and coaches but especially Kristen Cook, Diane Zirkel, Sherry Watts and Jennifer Doyle. They spent a lot of time working on this for several weeks leading up to this weekend's successful event. I also want to make sure that Sherri Kelly is mentioned as she did an amazing job behind the scenes to help make sure the day by day hospitality room was stocked with food for the coaches, workers, officials, etc.

Several schools from all around came to compete in the tournament. The Boys Team finished as the 3rd place team and the Girls team finished as the 4th place team. TJ Deleon and Hallie Kunz were selected as the All Tournament winners. Coaches were equally impressed with the effort during the tournament from these two kids. These kids work hard all the time and it is rewarding to see they were noticed for their overall efforts.

The Girls Team played Comstock early and won the first game to put them in the winners bracket and met up with District opponent D'hanis who ended up beating Medina but not without a fight. Medina was ahead early and played really good but just couldn't sustain it all game. We are looking forward to meeting up with them again and seeing what will happen down the road. D'hanis ended up going on to win the overall tournament. Medina then went to play a good Hondo JV team and was not able to pull out a win in the last game to secure the 3rd place spot so they ended up in 4th place. The girls team has improved and the future is bright. Girls start district this week and will strive to be a playoff contender which has not happened in several years for the girls.

The Boys team played Comstock also and won that game to put them in the winners bracket where they also met up with D'hanis who ended up going on to win the overall tournament also like the girls. The boys fought hard but just were not able to pull it out. The boys ended up playing another District opponent in Nueces Canyon for the 3rd and 4th place spot and played a solid game overall to be able to pull out a win. The boys team has a great opportunity to do something special and will start District one week later than the girls do.

It is always hard to describe the work that the coaches and parent volunteers put into any event but it is noticed and appreciated. The Medina Athletic Booster Club is very thankful for all the help that stepped up this weekend and has stepped up to help in many areas as this grows to help all our kids in Medina.
