Cowgirls release calendar, honor legend
The Bandera Cowgirls released their 2022 calendar on Thursday, December 23, at the Spirits of Texas store and the Bandera General Store. The cowgirls greeted customers and chatted with patrons while autographing their month in the calendar.
Nancy Harvey, owner of Spirits of Texas, said, “I am pleased to be a part of the Cowgirl calendar and proud to be a part of the release.”
The calendar is dedicated to Trail Boss Suzie Heywood, who is well-known for her time as leader of the “Trail Ride of the Century” in 2004, leading 224 individuals from Bandera to Dodge City, re-enacting the Great Western Trail Drive that herded cattle from Texas to Kansas. The ride lasted for 48 days and covered 650 miles.
Heywood exclaimed, “To be a calendar girl at age 83 is amazing. I guess as long as you can keep getting on your horse, you can keep riding.”
This is the fourth year that the Bandera Cowgirls have published a calendar. The calendar sales benefit a charitable or non-profit group in Bandera.
A great way to support the Cowgirls and have a true Texas memento to send to friends and neighbors out of state, calendars are available at Spirits of Texas, Bandera General Store and through the Cowgirls’ Marketing Director, Karen Osman.
The Bandera Cowgirls is a group of women who have been top performers in rodeo and equestrian events, who run ranches, love horses and are dedicated to honoring the lifestyle that cowgirls have become known for through the years.
