The Bandera Bulldogs plucked the Canyon Lake Hawks on Tuesday night at the Competition Gym in Bandera, dominating the game in a 69-45 victory.

The Bulldogs took an early lead in the first quarter scoring 10 to 2, but in just the course of two minutes the Hawks pulled ahead by one point. With baskets by Liam De Marchi and Luke Barnett, the Bulldogs were able to keep up with the Hawks. The Bulldogs were down by only one point going into the second, 17-16

Ryan Perez came out in the second quarter to make his signature waltz through the Canyon Lake players to the basket and add two to the scoreboard. Hot shooting senior Tyler Moore improved the score with a basket from the lane.

Luke Barnett drew a foul off Canyon Lake and made two shots. At the three-minute mark, Bandera was up by four points and there was no looking back. The Bulldogs kept the lead throughout the rest of the game.

Going into the half, Bandera walked to the dressing room with 27 points to Canyon Lake’s 18. That was a net addition of 11 points for Bandera to one point for Canyon Lake for the second quarter.

The third quarter started with an early three by the Bulldogs. Tyler Moore scored a basket putting the Dogs ahead 32 to 18. Gavin Ortiz showed some speed on the court as he took the ball to the goal. Tyler Moore drew another foul making both free throws and getting a spare two points on a drive up the court.

Moore was on fire in the second half putting together steals and converting turnovers into goals. Ryan Perez scored several 3 pointers in addition to Elijah Salas who also had a hot hand from downtown. Salas’ energy and hustle was evident in the second half. Kayden Brown put in two three’s to end the quarter with Bandera at 54 to Canyon Lake 30.

The Bulldogs’ confidence in the fourth quarter showed in all their plays.

The Dogs took their time setting up and working the ball until an opening was created in the Hawk defense. Kyle Morgan came into the game and did an excellent job rebounding.

Moore fed Morgan the ball and he went up for a basket. Unfortunately, Morgan was injured midway through the 4th quarter and sat out the rest of the game. The Bulldogs kept hitting their baskets and ended the game 69-45.

““I was extremely proud of the energy, effort and togetherness our team played with Tuesday night, “said Coach Brady Keane. “Ten of our 11 players scored and everyone contributed in one way or another to the win. We shot the ball well, and played well defensively after a crazy first quarter.”
