Thomas Franklin Stein passed away on April 19, 2022. Thomas was born on July 25,1935 in Bandera, Texas to Lawrence and Emily Stein.

He graduated from Central Catholic High School in San Antonio, Texas where he made lifelong friends.

As a teenager, he worked at Ryan’s Grocery Store in Bandera and met fellow employee, Joe Rodriguez, with whom he enjoyed a lifelong friendship.

While proudly serving in the US Army, Thomas met and worked alongside Elvis Presley who he said was a very nice guy. Thomas was stationed in Germany. During that time on a trip to Italy he was fortunate enough to see Pope John XXIII.

Thomas was employed at Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio and eventually retired from Civil Service employment there.

He was an active member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Bandera.

Thomas enjoyed visiting his brother, Phil, on weekends and watching football, especially his Dallas Cowboys. He most recently enjoyed his newest grandniece, Lilly, who always brought a smile to his face. Thomas enjoyed visiting casinos, tending his garden, sharing a cold brew at the Silver Dollar with friends and sharing his baked goods with friends. Thomas was a generous soul and supported many charities.

Thomas is preceded in death by his brother, John Stein, and sisters, Billie Jean Brown and Dixie Lee Stein. He is survived by his brother, Philip Stein of Pipe Creek TX., and his sisters Joyce Vickers of George West, Tx., Theresa Meschke (Michael) of Longview, Tx., and Bernadette Becker (Russell) of George West, Tx., and numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces, and grand nephews.

Pallbearers are Russell Becker, Michael Meschke, Stephen Jones, Justin Brown, Robert Skinner, and Jerry Herrera.

Rosary were recited at Grimes Bandera Funeral Chapel at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, April 26, 2022. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am on Wednesday, April 27, 2022, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Bandera. Interment will follow at Pipe Creek Cemetery in Pipe Creek, Texas.
