With the increase in Bandera County’s population and in the desire by citizens to have fresh home-grown produce, Bandera County Agrilife Extension Agent, Dakota Kempken, saw “the need for vegetable gardening education.”

To meet this need, a Joys of Gardening seminar will be held Thursday, March 3, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Mansfield Park with registration beginning at 9:30 a.m.

The presenters are Bexar County Extension horticulture Agent David Rodriguez and Extension Integrated Pest Management Specialist Molly Keck.

Rodriguez is well known for his live radio gardening show Saturday mornings and has won numerous awards for his work with Youth Gardening and Master Gardeners. His program will include the topics of beginning a garden, soil preparation and enrichment, and variety of plants that grow in the Hill Country.

Keck is a national and international speaker, author of numerous papers, a radio and TV presenter and Adjunct Professor at St. Phillip’s College. Her specialty is Integrated Pest Management (IPM). She will discuss the steps for successful gardening by identifying the pest and choosing appropriate environmentally safe methods of control.

A Q&A session follows each speaker.

Registration fee is $10, includes lunch and can be made by calling Theresa at 830-796-7755.
