The Wild Hog Catch is the main event at the Ham Rodeo, which has gone by many names the last 20 years and is returning this year on March 19. Prizes are given out in each competition, which is held in different age categories starting at three all the way

The Bandera Wranglers will host the Bandera Ham Rodeo on Saturday, March 19, during an event that will feature the Wild Hog Catch, music, merchandise, vendors, food, drinks and fun.

Gates open at 8 a.m. Gate entry is $10 for ages 13 and up, $5 for age 5-12 and no charge for little ones under age 5.

The Bandera Wranglers took over the wild hog chasing event in 2020, and the group said it has done everything that is required to see that the event does not violate the state’s wildlife handling regulations.

“The Bandera Wranglers have worked hard to keep this tradition going and appreciate community help,” said Wranglers spokesperson Julie Baker.

Depending on the event division, competition is to touch or catch wild hogs for prizes or belt buckles. Divisions are available for ages three and older to register.

Registration opens at 9 am. Music by Rebel Roxie begins 9:30a. Wild Hog events begin at 11am.

“I’ve been attending this event since day one when it was the Wild Hog Explosion. I was 4 years old. The excitement and environment with friends, family, and community is hard to put to words,” said Kortni Langlanais, a 23-year-old Bandera native.

“It is something you have to experience for yourself,” she continued. “It is my favorite day of the year, full of laughter and memories. It’s fun doing crazy things with people and a community you love. And, if you are fast enough you get a pretty darn cool belt buckle to go home with.”

Any person, group, or business interested in sponsoring or being a vendor should contact Bandera Wranglers via phone call or text at 830-460-3756 or email bandera.wranglers@gmail.com
